Our Vision

To protect the planet from climate change by using a tested methodology for a livable future of resilient communities.

Our Mission

To create prosperous and peaceful lives for all, with resource efficiency and climate neutrality.
The 2000-Watt Society focuses on 3 pillars to enhance people’s lives, save our planet, and generate profit for individuals and societies worldwide.
I. People (social): Enhance the quality of life and improve areas such as health, education and work-life balance.
II. Planet (environmental): Optimize green factors like energy consumption, renewable energy, greenhouse gas emissions, and green spaces.
III. Profit (economic): Raise the productivity and economic health of the city.

Our Goals

To transform urban areas in the world into a 2000-Watt society, leading to carbon neutrality in a harmonious world.

To reduce the average usage of (primary) energy per capita to 2000 watts per person by 2035 (non-renewable) and 2050 (total including renewable).

To disseminate comprehensive and smart solutions to develop 2000-Watt Smart Cities for global sustainable development.

To promote a culture of 100% renewable energy consumption in operation, by the year 2050.

To reduce global greenhouse gas emissions to 2000 kg per person and year by 2035 and further to net zero (carbon neutrality) by 2050.

The goal of the Paris Agreement is to limit global warming to well below 2°C. To achieve this, an individual should only be using an average of 2000 Watts by the year 2050 without compromising living standards and mobility.
However, there is a need to strike a balance between industrialized and developing countries so that everyone can enjoy an optimal quality of life while still practicing sustainability.
The 2000-Watt Society was established to work towards this goal. Our efforts align with the Paris Agreement 2015, the findings of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the Swiss Federal Council’s goal of August 2019 for net zero climate gases by 2050.

Our Objectives

The 2000-Watt Society extends its comprehensive solutions to government authorities (at national, state, municipal levels), corporates, PSUs, industries, investors and the entire value chain/ecosystem. Through this we aim to provide:
I. Certification to ensure the fulfilment of the requirements of 2000-Watt Smart Cities for global sustainable development.
II. Consulting services for planning, executing, monitoring and evaluation of renewable-energy consumption as well as development of 2000-Watt Smart Cities.
III. Coaching & Capacity Building - To reach out to stake holders through coaching and capacity building thereby creating awareness and ambassadors for climate justice.

The 2000-Watt Concept – The Global Perspective

Carbon emission is a natural phenomenon and will continue with or without humankind. However, in the last 100 years carbon levels have risen at an alarming pace, suggesting that human beings are responsible for this sudden steep rise. Scientific evidence indicates that if man-made carbon emissions continue to rise, climate change will make many already inhabited areas around the globe un-inhabitable, accompanied by natural disasters of unprecedented scale, looming migration of millions of refugees and the risk of wars over water.

To combat this situation, most countries have agreed at COP21 in Paris to reduce their carbon emissions to a sustainable level. This level is known as 'Carbon Neutral'. Some analysts call this equilibrium 'Footprint ONE'; others request that we become a '2000-Watt Society' until building technology and sequestration of carbon allows for netZero to become doable.

2000-Watt society is an energy and climate policy concept that addresses two societal challenges:

  1. The scarcity of sustainably available energetic resources
  2. The fair deployment of energy both in developed and in developing countries

This concept translates national energy and climate targets to the municipal level and provides a standardized, municipal accounting framework. It also offers a definition of 'net zero' for cities and municipalities.

What is a 2000-Watt Smart City?

The 2000-Watt Smart City (2000WSC) consists of a grid of dense, independent, and well-connected smaller units, called communities, micro-cities, neighborhoods, wards, or precincts.

  • Density: The 2000WSC township must be large enough to offer all activities and services which the residents need on a daily basis, but small enough for everything to be within walking distance. That requires a high density around FAR=2 overall. The 2000WSC township is always mixed-use and multi-functional: Living, working, playing, relaxing, and learning must be well-balanced.
  • Mixed Used: The 2000WSC-township must be able to manage its own infrastructure. Energy, water, waste, health facilities, schools, and security are under local jurisdiction and controlled by regional or state authorities.
  • Connectivity: The 2000WSC township is self-sufficient on a local level, but interconnected with its surrounding, neighboring towns, state, and country. Connectivity for people, for goods, for energy, for information must be provided efficiently and comfortably.
